TANNOY
Legacy Speaker Series
08-05-2017
Tannoy reintroduces its Legacy speaker series from the 1970s Following the recently revived Prestige range, Tannoy is now
bringing three models from its original Legacy series back to
life.
If you hark back to the era of flared trousers, Saturday Night
Fever and the Ford Capri, Tannoy has just the thing for you. For
those wanting to relive the glory days of 1970s hi-fi, the
company is bringing back its Arden (middle), Cheviot (left) and
Eaton (right) speaker ranges.
However, the Devon and Berkeley models from the original
five-strong Legacy line-up are not being
reintroduced.
Introducing the Absolute Phono and Absolute Phono
Inside… could this little duo be a pair of world firsts?
Another ground-breaker from German analogue innovators
Clearaudio: two ways to solve the problem of a small signal
making a long journey. Consider your standard phonostage set-up.
The delicate musical output signal generated within the
cartridge has to travel down the internal tonearm wiring and
along the external arm lead before it reaches the phonostage, at
which point it is amplified and then equalized before being fed
out to the preamplifier. This signal is both very small and very
sensitive, hence susceptible to electrical interference at all
stages of its journey from the cartridge to, and through, the
phonostage. The solution? A radical review of the fundamentals
of phonostage design. Clearaudio’s engineers have been working
on precisely that and, after much rethinking, reworking and
refining, they are poised to advance the state of the art with
not one, but two new phonostages.
We’re delighted to announce
that the new Clearaudio 2014 catalogue is now available. In it,
you will find our extensive product range, from well-known
favourites to the latest innovations – which we’re sure will
become as well-established as many of our Clearaudio classics.
We hope you enjoy perusing its pages!

MB100
29-01-2014
For those who want to
add a full-blown media streamer to their system, McIntosh has
developed the MB100 Media Bridge with built-in hard drive. This
full-size component allows users to connect digital sources via
the USB or network ports and stream content at up to
24-bit/192kHz resolution. They can also stream music directly
from their wireless devices such as smartphones and tablets.
Built-in streaming services within the MB100 include Pandora,
Spotify, Rhapsody, Last.fm and TuneIn, and there's cloud access
for back-up and synchronisation across multiple systems. A solid
state 64GB drive houses the operating system, and there's an
additional 1TB hard drive for audio file storage. Control is via
an iOS or Android app, web browser, TV user interface or the
front-panel display.
The MHA100 is McIntosh's
first dedicated headphone amp. It has four digital inputs to
allow playback of music files in a wide variety of formats,
while the headphone section uses McIntosh-designed and
hand-wound impedance matching Autoformers to deliver "full
McIntosh power" into any set of headphones. Users can choose
from three headphone impedance ranges: 8-40ohms, 40-150ohms and
150-600ohms. There's also a five-step bass boost control. It
also features a 50W stereo speaker output if you want to use it
with speakers rather than headphones.
Both the MHA100 and
MXA70 share the same casework and physical design, but the
latter includes a specially designed pair of two-way speakers.
The all-in-one system packs a 50W stereo amp and incorporates
the same headphone amp found in the MHA100. There's no CD player,
rather it's designed to be used with a variety of digital
sources such as a computer, Sonos system or hard drive. And to
that end it has an asynchronous USB input, plus analogue, AES/EBU,
optical and coaxial inputs.
McIntosh has also
revealed that it is developing its own headphone, the MHP1000.
In the picture you see the prototype. The MHP1000 is the
flagship of a series, later this year we expect a more cheaper
model to be added. Pricing: At this time we haven’t got any
information regarding pricing. As soon as we have more
information about it, we will be more than happy to share this
with you. Shows: If you intend to organize a show or musical
evening, and you do want to underline one of our brands during
this show? Than we will do our upper best to assist you in a way
of providing extra demo-materials, placing news- and agenda
items. Please feel free to contact your sales representative if
you have any questions.
The Reference CD8 has been extremely popular, winning acclaim
and awards internationally for its stellar performance since
being introduced in November 2008. An engaging musical
performance has kept its sales surprisingly strong, even in the
face of new digital technologies. The fact is that lots of music
lovers still embrace their compact disc collections and will not
give them up. After four years it is finally time to replace the
REF CD8. People still want to play their CDs, but they also want
to add other digital sources such as computer audio to their
music systems, so we are introducing the REF CD9 CD-DAC. It
combines the best of both, a super high-resolution compact disc
player with a super high-resolution digital-to analog converter
that is stunning in its musicality.
“Building on the success of the VSi60, which has won
amplifier-of-the-year awards in at least four countries and
continues to sell well, Audio Research is now pleased to
introduce a vacuum tube integrated amplifier that takes power,
performance, and esthetics to a much higher level, the VSi75.
The VSi75 does not replace the VSi60, it offers a significant
step up in every meaningful way. The VSi75 provides 50% more
power, with a muscular 75 watts per channel, from an all-silver
chassis of the same dimensions as the VSi60. There is a natural
anodized top plate through which the tubes project, like other
VS-series amplifiers. Chassis corners are smooth and seamless,
and the VSi75 has a new, low profile, anodized front panel
containing six silver metal buttons for Power, Mute, Volume Up,
Volume Down, Bias, and Input. A new LCD displays the Input,
Volume, Stereo/Mono, and Operate/Mute. Numerals are green, with
letters in white. And, the LCD will display the bias reading of
each tube, making it easy to set the bias without a separate
meter.
A Modern Classic The MT5 turntable is engineered so that each part
synergistically combines to produce superb record playback –
tracking force, anti-skate force, cartridge overhang, and arm
height are all preset for maximum performance. While the
construction of the MT5 is meticulous, the setup is simple. In a
few easy steps, you’ll be ready to enjoy your favorite vinyl
recordings. The MT5 maintains classic McIntosh styling by taking
full advantage of the chassis materials used to suppress noise,
resonance and coloration so the only sound produced is that
which is on your records.
The D100 is a remote
controlled digital stereo preamplifier with five digital inputs
(2 Coaxial, 2 Optical and 1 USB), and both variable and fixed
volume audio output. It is a simple solution to add digital
music to an existing McIntosh system. Or simply add an amplifier,
a pair of speakers and a digital source for a complete digital
based stereo system. It shares the classic façade, knobs and
handcrafted black-glass front panels as all other McIntosh
components in a small form factor of just under 4" in height.
Its powerful built in headphone amplifier will elevate the sound
of your favorite headphones so that you may enjoy the ultimate
personal listening experience. (Headphones not included.) The
D100 utilizes an 8 channel, 32-bit, 192kHz D/A converter with
wide dynamic range and extremely low distortion. Eight channel
D/A converter is used in stereo Quad Balanced mode. Music at all
levels is reproduced with extreme precision and elegance. A 1/8”
mini jack is provided for control data from the data output jack
of a McIntosh preamp or A/V Control Center.

Clarifier app
2-8-2012
Cardas Audio, one of the
longest-established boutique audio-cable and accessories
innovators, has brought George Cardas' frequency-sweep
system-enhancement tweak, previously available on LP for more
than 25 years from Cardas Audio and on CD from Ayre Acoustics,
into the world of smartphone applications with the "Clarifier"
app, available from iTunes' App Store for 99 cents. The app is
for the iPhone (and iPod Touch) only; we don't know if an
Android version is planned. With its price tag obviously
benefiting from both economies of scale and the lack of
physical-delivery costs, Cardas' 0,79 euro "Clarifier" app
consists of short (21 second) and long (71s) frequency-sweep
tones, a 1kHz calibration tone, and instructions. It should be
pointed out that the short and long app sweeps are respectively
33% and 23% of the comparable times on the Ayre Irrational, But
Efficacious! CD (MSRP $20). Regardless, the efficacy of such
sweeps will continue to be a bone of controversy, especially
among those who have not actually heard them demonstrated. But
for 99 cents, there is now no reason for skeptics not to try it
for themselves. Editor John Atkinson heard the Ayre CD in action
in my listening room, and promptly resolved to leave the
shrinkwrap on his own copy of the CD. John Marks, with all due
respect to Messrs. Cardas and Hansen (of Ayre), believes that
rather than degaussing the system's electrical components, the
sweep works by discharging the residual charge of not only all
the capacitors in the system, but also of all components that
have capacitance, thereby lowering the system's noise floor.
Clearaudio introduced the new high end turntable "Master Innovation"
The bearing of the turntable
model "Innovation" was improved to the "Master Innovation". Now
the whole flywheel mass is twice higher than the total weight of
the "Innovation" model, while the improved control was even more
finely tuned and has been outsourced. An additional flywheel
provides still more silence and stability to the bearing, which
is already certified as one of the best bearings (magnet bearing
technology). Furthermore, up to three tonearms can be mounted.
Clearaudio introduced the new MM - cartridge - series "V2"
The new optimized and enhanced MM - cartridge - series replaces
the previous successful products. The main difference is that
the system's corpus consists of a hand-polished ebony housing
with an implemented resonance-absorbing metal plate. Through the
use of stronger magnets a much greater dynamic range can be felt.
A preview of the brand new Sonus faber loudspeaker: Aida.
The New York audio press was treated to the world premiere of
Sonus Faber’s latest triumph, the Aida, on Tuesday night (an
open-to-audiophiles affair was on Wednesday night). When I
arrived for the auspicious event at Stereo Exchange’s NYC
showrooms the speakers were cloaked in cloth wrappers. The
Aida’s statuesque 68 inch tall presence and imposing 363 pound
weight left no doubt: this speaker is a no holds barred effort.
Sonus Faber importer John Hunter hosted the proceedings, and
introduced Fine Sounds’ CEO Mauro Grange. Hunter then played a
wide range of music over the Aidas, everything from solo
acoustic guitar, funky jazz, large orchestral works, before
turning up the heat with Yello’s thumpin’ beats. The Aida uses
an “Arrow Point” Damped Apex Dome tweeter, a proprietary
cellulose pulp/kapok/kenaf and other natural fibers midrange
driver, high-tech syntactic foam core and cellulose pulp
sandwich woofers, and a nanocarbon/honeycomb infra woofer. The
cabinet is an elaborate “Lyra-shape,” multi-chambered design,
outfitted with numerous resonance control measures. The
drop-dead gorgeous finish, even by Sonus Faber standards, was
simply stunning. Aida was being played with Audio Research
electronics, including a Reference 5 preamp, Ref CD8 CD player,
and the speakers were biamped with Reference 250 and DS450 amps.
I wasn’t in the sweet spot for most of the auditions, but the
sound was big, bold and juicy. I was in the ideal position for
Yello, and the Aidas not only threw a massive soundstage, the
out-of-phase elements of the mix were projected well out in
front of the speakers. The effect was as close to surround sound
as I’ve heard from a pair of speakers. The Aida will retail for
$120,000 per pair.

Goldfinger Statement
the clearaudio cartridge
range has a new flagship: the clearaudio Goldfinger Statement,
heralding a new era in high-fidelity analogue music reproduction.
The Goldfinger Statement also incorporates the patented
clearaudio MC construction priciple, which guarantess absolute
symmetry of all electrical, mechanical and magentic parameters.
The Goldfinger Statement's 18 Karat gold body features no less
than twelve magnets arranged in a 'clearaudio 12 Magnet Ring'
configuration. The use of twelve magnets has allowed clearaudio
to use pure 24 Karat gold for the coils, wound with wire 30%
thinner than that used previously. This further reduces the
moving mass and provides a generator assembly of incredible
efficiency.
The improvements incorporated wihtin the Goldfinger Statement
lead to:
- higher output
- improved channel separation
- increased dynamic range
- ultra-high resolution of even the finest details
The Goldfinger Statement is the first MC cartridge in the world
to include integrated EMF shielding.
No name is more closely
associated with high-end audio amplifiers than that of Dan
D’Agostino. During his career of more than 30 years, D’Agostino
pioneered countless advances in the design of amplifiers,
preamplifiers, CD players, and surround-sound processors. He is
known as the audio industry’s most passionate promoter of
highquality, high-powered amplification. Makers of the world’s
finest loudspeakers rely on D’Agostino-designed amplifiers for
their most important demonstrations.
Dan D’Agostino was founder and chief engineer of Krell
Industries through 2009. Now, he embarks on a completely fresh
start with a new organization and new state-of-the-art designs.
The products that bear his name not only achieve new levels of
sound quality, they also look like nothing he has built before—more
compact, more distinctive, and more living-room-friendly.
The new Dan D’Agostino products also reflect his concern for the
environment—an attitude uncommon in an industry where some
amplifiers consume hundreds of watts even when they’re not in
use. Through innovative power-supply design, Dan D’Agostino
products consume only the slightest trickle of power at idle, so
they run cooler and save energy.
The greatest testimony to the quality of D’Agostino’s new
project, though, is that his name—in fact, his very signature—graces
the front of each and every Dan D’Agostino product. Everything
he has learned in decades of design and engineering the finest
audio equipment has gone into the Momentum.
As impressive as these designs may sound on paper, the only way
you can truly appreciate their warmth, detail and unmatched
beauty is to hear them at your nearest Dan D’Agostino Master
Audio Systems dealer.

Ever wonder why you
can't find a clock that looks more like a 1970s amplifier? If
you answered yes to that question, and don't mind throwing down
wads of cash for novelty timepieces, then McIntosh's MCLK12 is
right up your alley. The makers of high-end audio gear have
produced a clock that's in keeping with their classic look and
price point -- it costs uses blue-lit amp meters to tell the
time (hours on the left, minutes on the right). We have to admit,
the MCLK12 looks pretty sweet, but really, whatever happened to
promotional t-shirts?

Vox Olympian
When owners Kevin & Lynn
Scott had business in Switzerland and stopped on Lake Geneva for
an afternoon chat in Vevey, I had profiled the Living Voice Vox
Olympian 5-way horn speaker project from afar exactly one year
ago. Now it was time to visit their Definitive Audio showroom in
the East Midlands of Blighty to experience the operation and
first working pair in person. The 2010 Yacht Show in Monaco's
Port Hercule would see the public unveiling of the first Vox
Olympian production unit in late September a few weeks after my
visit. As I learned, formal production benefits from certain
extravagant refinements in overall finish and cosmetic trim.
modellen.
CDA825
As a result of our quest
for refining the musical capabilities of the CD-media, and our
constant efforts to understand and taget the underlying
technological requirements, we believe that the introduction of
the CDA825 is offering significant improvements of sound
reproduction from CD-media. Obviously the CD-media is a digital
representation of an initially analog event, and the design of
the CDA825 is therefore determent by an ambition to reconstruct
the complex and delicate harmonic structure of the original
analog waveform. This objective adheres to all details of the
design, as well as their integration into the whole.Starting
with the power supply, the following paragraphs offers some
insight into the various design considerations.
The birth of Ktêma
To be able to communicate, using the language of music, those
feelings that cannot be narrated with the most private of words
- this is my task. I am Ktema, a loudspeaker. I am a fusion of
the old, enduring experience with the light, free, searching
spirit. My birth came about by chance, by the strange destiny of
the simplest things that fascinating us - the things that give
life to great passions and enthusiasm... It was because of a
mysterious string of events that a simple phrase – written in
pen along the margin of a wiring diagram – began to represent
the inception of an arduous project. Little by little, it took
form and depth, generating my conception. The following phrase
was sent to the person who, through time, “gave me shape”, words
from a friend with whom he had continuously carried out accurate
and attentive research over the years, intent on delving into
the innermost definitions of what music reproduction actually “means”.
Virgo 25
Making something
outstanding even better – this was both an incentive and a
challenge on the occasion of our company anniversary. In the
case of the Virgo 25, this aim was inspired by the driver and
crossover technology of our top model, the Cardeas. The midrange
drivers and tweeters are identical, while the tweeter
additionally boasts the groundbreaking SSC decoupling from the
loudspeaker cabinet. This means that there is no way that even
the slightest resonances of the cabinet can impair the fine and
delicate work of the tweeter. Timeless elegance and a highly
refined sound quality combine in the Virgo 25 to produce a pair
of top class loudspeakers.

G8 Isolation Table
The Living Voice G8 was
originally designed and developed to allow the use of high
performance valve electronics in the saloons of
super-yachts.That the G8 exceeds the rigorous demands of a
nautical application makes it the ideal choice for a cost no
object, ‘belt and braces,’ domestic installation. It is built to
a peerless standard using the finest materials. The ultimate
equipment table for the ultimate music system. Living Voice G8
is the apotheosis of energy isolating equipment table design.
Its massive main base plate and chassis is purpose cast in LG2
bronze. LG2 is comprised of 85% copper, 5% zinc, 5% lead and 5%
tin and as such displays mechanical and electrical properties
that make it the ideal material for this application. The LG2
bronze base plate provides a very low centre of gravity and is
also effective at rejecting radio and high frequency energy. The
rigid 3 level monocoque shelving assembly is decoupled from the
main chassis and floats freely as a unit on an adjustable
three-axis elastomeric suspension system. This dynamic
suspension system is housed within the three purpose cast bronze
box section upright legs. The suspension system is adjustable,
and when deployed in a nautical environment features excursion
limiters and storm locks. The 3 individual shelves are
separately decoupled from the floating sub chassis on steel
point contacts providing a further level of isolation. The
premium hardwood shelf perimeters are braced with a rigid steel
latticework that can support 250 kilos of equipment at forces of
up to 8Gs. The bronze base and uprights can be force patinated
in a choice of finishes, from rich chocolate through to burnt
umber, fiery orange and verdegris. The shelving can be profiled
to any shape of the client's choosing from any premium hardwood.

PH-77
all-in-one hybride Phono Stage.

Vacuum-Tube Phono Preamplifier After our original Reference Phono preamplifier was
discontinued in 2005, the demand for a Reference-level
successor never declined. Not satisfied with introducing a
replacement that would be incrementally better, we were
determined to develop an all-new vacuum-tube phono
preamplifier that would truly advance the state of the art.
Years of development have come to fruition and we are proud
to introduce the fully balanced Reference Phono 2.
Physically, the Reference Phono 2 is similar to our other
Reference preamplifiers, with slab side panels, a
vacuum-fluorescent display, and the same height and depth as
its predecessors. The front panel has six control buttons
for Power, Input, Gain, Load, RIAA and Mute. New silver
handles are standard on natural-anodized units, while black
handles come with black-anodized units. For owners wanting
to match other Audio Research components, black handles are
available, just as new silver handles will be available for
most other Audio Research components.
CD8 CD Player
Audio Research are proud to introduce a model that may be
the most musical and musically accurate single-chassis
compact disc player, the Reference CD8. It replaces a
product that was still garnering five-star reviews three
years after its introduction, the esteemed Reference CD7.
With the advent of the CD5 and DAC7 in 2008, they knew that
the DAC used in our Reference player needed a newer,
higher-resolution version. (The new 24-bit, 192-kHz chipset
is not retrofittable to the CD7.) And, their engineers found
a way to physically incorporate the same power-supply
regulation used in the Reference 3, using a single 6550C to
replace two 6H30 triodes, giving better performance and
longer tube life. Other enhancements include their newest
output coupling capacitors and special damping tweaks. The
playback mechanism continues to be the unsurpassed Philips
PRO2R — still the best dedicated CD mechanism available. The
REFCD8 also features a new dimmable display, allowing five
levels of illumination or completely off. A small LED
indicator remains lit when the player is on, as a reminder
to prevent the player from being left on inadvertently. In
size, input and output configuration, —and in all other
operational functions, the REFCD8 is identical to the
REFCD7. But there the similarities end. Sonically, the
REFCD8 stands in a class all its own. While retaining the
lush, full embodiment of the CD7 sound, the CD8 adds new
dimensions of transparency. It immediately shows greater
transient speed top-to-bottom, purer resolution of low-level
detail and expanded dynamic contrasts, with more bass slam,
definition and extension. The soundstage is larger and more
holographic because of the heightened ability of the REFCD8
to embody and locate instruments and voices. Rhythmically,
the REFCD8 also picks up the pace compared to the CD7, with
improved timing cues and better rhythmic interplay. You will
find other sonic dimensions to marvel as you spend time with
this enticing player. Quite simply, the REFCD8 will have you
rearranging your compact disc collection all over again as
you rediscover and reprioritise old and new favorites. It
really is the most mesmerizing, musically accurate CD player
Audio Research have ever experienced — and what better way
to bring enhanced value to a growing, and costly, CD
collection!
The design of the
EAT Forte turntable is based on a combination of two basic
principles: Separate Sub Chassis and a mass loaded turntable. This gives
us the best of both worlds. The chassis of the table is very
heavy and mass-loaded using metal-filled sand. The feet are
magnetic and act as a sub chassis to support the table.
EAT the Energy The EAT Forte turntable is all about eating energy. Energy
from the ground is decoupled by magnetic feet. Energy from
the air is decoupled from the heavy chassis that is made
from MDF and fi lled metal sand. Energy from tone arm and
cartridge is absorbed by using a heavy metal tone arm base
isolated by sorbothane. Energy from the belt is captured by
the mass of the platter and by the string itself. Energy
from the motor is captured by the dual-motor design, the
decoupled motor unit and the mass-loaded motor chassis.
Energy of the bearing is catch by the ceramic ball, the Tefl
on plate and the magnetic bearing construction.

By someone who has
listened and knows Grado headphones. Jason Morin aka Zanth on
head-fi.org:
Never
one to stop innovating, Grado has set out to create a new
flagship and it is these new headphones, the PS1000's, as I
hear it, are the very best headphone Grado Labs has ever
produced. What would so excite me as to claim such a thing?
How about a hybrid metal/wooden headphone that incorporates
the tone and timbre of the RS1's, maintaining the superior
Grado mid-range, the hallmark of their sound and a resonance
reduced decay which brings the sound closer to that of the
PS1's and HP-1000's? How about all of that, dear listeners?
Well here it is, the evolution of the metal series and the
wooden series, the PS1000 is the answer to all those who
have for years hoped for a broad release of the PS1's or for
those who wanted something even better than the GS1000's.
"The PS1000's are the very best
Grado headphone ever made"

HD-800
NEWS CES-Show Las Vegas If you're someone doesn't
like to pay more than $50
for a pair of headphones,
look away, now. If you're
someone who doesn't mind
throwing down $300 for a
pair of cans, you should
probably look away, too. But
if you've got $1,400 to burn
on a sweet pair of
headphones, read on because
that's what Sennheiser's new
HD 800 will retail for when
they come out in February.
What do you get for $1,400?
Well, for starters, the
newly designed earcups are
finished in Japanese
Alcantara, which is a
special form of man-made
suede that's particularly
friendly to the skin and
easy to clean. After that,
it gets pretty technical.
Sennheiser says the 56mm
transducer in the HD 800 is
"the largest that can
currently be found in a
dynamic headphone,"
explaining that the more
transducer surface area that
vibrates, the purer the
headphone sounds at low
frequencies. However, the
problem with a transducer
with a large surface area is
that at high frequencies "undesired
resonances occur at the
diaphragm, resulting in
distortions in sound
reproduction." Apparently,
the new design principle of
the HD 800--which involves a
patented ring design for the
diaphragm--resolves this
dilemma and minimizes the
distortion of the sound
image. We haven't listened
to them yet, but Sennheiser
says, "The HD 800 has
brilliant trebles, precise
bass reproduction, and an
exceptionally clear sound
image. The frequency
response is an unprecedented
6 to 51,000 Hertz."
Acoustic Resonators
The resonators made by Acoustic System are
one of the most unbelievable high fidelity products. They
consist of minute metal sound bodies that rest on wooden
bases. Positioned correctly at particular points in the
room, they improve the sound quality of every system. The
resonators are activated by sound waves in the room and
produce overtones - subtle overtones, which also define the
sound colour. This colouring is often lost during the
recording process, and when replaced always improves, and
never worsens, the sound experience. Every listening room
affects the music with its own specific audio characterics,
inventor and developer modify the acoustic properties of the
listening room. In a very sophisticated way, of course. of
Acoustic System, is Acoustic System manufactures five
different resonators, in five different materials. Every a
qualified goldsmith music system can be improved by using
one or more of them in six easy steps. and is a musician
himself. Acoustic System’s component supports are also
surprisingly effective - they too can lift a system’s sound
distinctly. All details of the Acoustic System products were
optimized by empirical means. Scientific explanations are
very complex, particularly in the case of the resonators, as
they have to define the relationship between low-level
overtones, diffusion effects and psycho-acoustic perception.
Luckily the quality of these products is easy to appreciate
without knowledge of the background theory. Hard to believe.
Easy to hear

CD-77
AMR's design brief
was simple in essence but complex in execution: "to match
and exceed the performance of the new Super Audio CD®." To
achieve this lofty objective, the CD-77 is able to lay claim
to a unique approach in design and manufacture.
To begin, the proprietary top-loading transport mechanism is
a painstaking amalgamation of genuine Sony and Philips
components best suited to the application.
At the heart, the Digital to Analogue Converter is the "King
of the Multibit" – the Philips TDA1541A chipset, which is
accompanied with a leading-edge circuit incorporating the
latest CPLD (Complex Programmable Logic Device) and DSP
(Digital Signal Processing) devices. Combined with a
revolutionary analogue stage using pure New Old Stock valves,
the musical performance of the CD-77 must be heard to be
believed.
The CD-77 is unrelenting in its maximisation of the sonic
performance and pushes the performance of CD to a new level
that seriously questions the ability of Super Audio CD®...
It is one of the select few that bridges the performance gap
between compact disk and vinyl or analogue master tapes.
The long and winding road continues here
at Classic Records with our ongoing pursuit to make the best
quality records possible.
Highly recommended! Audio Desk Systeme is a unique motorized
cutting device manufactured in Germany. It is designed to
“true” the shape of the CD to reduce mechanical jitter, and
also trims the edge of the CD to a 38° angle to reduce laser
scatter. This edge is further treated with a black marker.
This 60-second process results in pronounced improvements in
focus, transient attack, detail and transparency. The
hardened cutting blade trims about 2000 CDs.
“This is a “must have” product for anyone really interested
in maximizing the potential of their CD/SACD collection. The
price is reasonable and the construction and presentation of
the product is outstanding. The results are simply quite
staggering!”

SPL-D2
The
SPL-D2 is a sound-level display unit. This unit can be used
as a stand-alone device, or it can be connected to the SPL5
limiter. The display is built-up with hi-efficiency bi-color
LEDs, so that it is clearly readable from a distance. When
connected to the SPL5 the display value is read from the
SPL5 limiter. The bar can be used as a soundlevel indication
bar, or as an attenuation bar. When used as a stand-alone
unit the optional measuring microphone must be connected.
The display shows the actual measured value. When the value
crosses the pre-defined level the display color switches
from green to red. This can be used as an indication for a
live-band. To change these settings the SPL-D2 uses the same
PC-software as the SPL5.

Grado is pleased to announce the
release of the GS1000, the new flagship of our headphone
line. The GS1000 was shown for the very first time at the
International Head-Fi Convention in New York City. The
response was just phenomenal. The Grado Statement GS1000 has
been on the drawing board for sometime, and we have to admit
that this is our finest effort to date. This new headphone
incorporates a redesigned driver, a new and larger wooden
housing and much larger foam cushions that are extremely
comfortable. Grado’s new cushion design actually creates a
“room” for the ears to sit, creating a larger soundstage and
greater spatial experience for the listener. It was most
important to design the correct balance between the driver
and our new wooden driver housing to give us the resulting
sound that we desired. This has been accomplished. By
creating this “room” for the ears to sit, positioning of the
cushions with regards to the ears (i.e., forward or back) is
somewhat critical in finding the absolute sweet spot. With
this new cushion design, we now believe the GS1000 to be one,
if not the most comfortable headphone on the market today.
The new designed driver delivers a top to bottom sound that
is extremely balanced. The mass distribution within the new
larger wooden housing has also been improved. The way the
new driver and wooden housing work together to move air and
react to sound vibrations are less affected by transient
distortions. The new GS1000 will provide improved control
over the upper and lower frequency spectrums while better
supporting Grado’s world-renowned midrange. The GS1000
retains a sound that is pure Grado, rich full-bodied vocals,
excellent dynamics and an ultra smooth top end. The
presentation is very detailed, the bass is deep and the
music is very tight and non-fatiguing. All with a soundstage
that is huge allowing for unbelievable separation and
layering of the music which is simply stunning.
The Clearaudio
NANOPHONO defines a new world standard. Real High-End
performance at a truly budget price: Experts would say this
is not possible. However Clearaudio have achieved this
breakthrough by using a new design perspective, the solution
is simple, elegant and astonishingly effective. The printed
circuit board is precisely embedded within a massive
precision-CNC-machined aluminium block that forms the
complete chassis. The result: Resonances are not formed in
the first place! The miniature size of the Nano-Phono
ensures outstanding technical results and unheard of
quietness within its price range! The quality of the
Nano-Phono is obvious. The latest sophisticated
surface-mount technology is used in conjunction with
precision electronic components, such as BURR-BROWN (Texas
Instruments) integrated circuits, and extremely short signal
paths leading to a pure, hum and noise-free music
reproduction. The fully dual-mono design requires separate
setting of the left and right channels for input loading,
gain control and selection between MC and MM modes,
extracting the best results from virtually any cartridge.-
